The setesdals vintage railway & walking the timber slide

The Setesdal Vintage Railway was opened in 1896 to link the town of Kristiansand with the Setesdal ValleyThe line was discontinued in 1962, but fortunately some of the track was re-opened as a veteran railway line. The railway is powered by a steam engine, dating from around the turn-of-the last century. Experience a journey passing through tunnels, under avalanche shelters and across a dam. Arriving at the end station of Røyknes, you will have the opportunity to enjoy some Norwegian Griddle cakes and a cup of coffee. You will also have some time to visit the small souvenirshop, before jumping back on the train for the return journey.

Next to the railway line you can see the timber slide which was used to transport logs down to the coast for export. At Kringsjå Station you get off together with your guide and start the walk down the timber slide. Your guide will be telling stories from the days the timber slide was in active use while you take in the spectacular Norwegian nature. Arriving back at the end of the timber slide, you take the bus back to Kristiansand.
